Verdion gets green light for first 575,000 sq m of Intermodal Park Papenburg

The municipality of Dörpen in western Germany has given the green lightfoot for another key piece of the masterplan for a one million sq m industrial and logistics mega-project at a multimodal transport hub on the German-Dutch border, to be known as Verdion Intermodal Park Papenburg. 

Following development planning, 575,000 sq m is now ready for immediate construction. Verdion can accommodate building sizes up to 125,000 sq m, with capability for large-scale light industrial, hazardous goods and specialist logistics space, partly with over 20m in height, as well as on-site cargo handling and new infrastructure capability.

Verdion Intermodal Park Papenburg is located directly at the inland port of the cargo transport centre GVZ Emsland, which is linked via two canals to the seaports of Bremen and Emden. A distributor road also links the site within a few minutes’ drive to the A31 motorway – which connects with Emden and the Rhine-Ruhr metropolitan area. Another integral part of GVZ Emsland is the rail freight depot on the train line connecting Emden and Heidelberg. The current rail line can be extended into the Verdion site to offer direct access to occupiers and offer more sustainable long-distance transport options.

“The primary advantage of this site is the sheer scale of industrial and logistics development that can be undertaken here,” says André Banschus, Executive Director at Verdion. “Opportunities for large scale facilities are increasingly rare, especially for anything with height requirements. The plot was in the running for the Tesla giga factory for a long time but now as Verdion Intermodal Park Papenburg in Dörpen it offers a genuinely unique opportunity for extensive development, supported by outstanding multimodal traffic connections and excellent energy infrastructure to comfortably accommodate a range of industrial requirements.”
