Alan Colquhoun, a senior real estate professional well-known within the industry for his 20 years at DTZ and Cushman & Wakefield has joined PropTech firm Velis Real Estate Tech as an Adviser to the Management Board.

Velis Real Estate Tech delivers innovative property and facility management solutions via its Singu software suite.

Colquhoun is an MRICS-qualified real estate professional who was associated for two decades with advisory company DTZ (latterly Cushman & Wakefield), where he held senior roles in the Czech Republic, Poland, Canada, and the United Kingdom. Before working in the property sector, Colquhoun spent seven years in Germany where he ran sales and service agencies supplying US forces personnel.

Colquhoun began his DTZ career at Prague in 1993, becoming Agency Director in 1995 and Managing Director in 1996. In 1999 he transferred to the larger Polish business, with management responsibilities for Central Europe added in 2006. As well as being involved in various large leasing and investment transactions, he expanded the business by introducing new business lines and managed the local acquisition and integration of the Donaldson’s shopping centre management and retail agency business. In 2010 Alan was transferred to Canada for a one-year stint as CEO at DTZ Barnicke Ltd, where the business needed stabilising and restructuring in the aftermath of the global financial crisis. After a brief return to the UK in 2011, he returned to Poland as Head of Central Europe in 2013 and, finally, as Chair of Cushman & Wakefield Poland after the merger with DTZ in 2015. More recently he ran his own outsourcing business in the UK which was sold at the beginning of 2020.

‍“PropTech is the future for efficient, effective property and asset management: the sector is developing rapidly so it’s an exciting time to get involved. The commercial property market has been slow to embrace IT and all it can offer, but that is changing quickly, especially in the aftermath of the pandemic,” says Colquhoun, who will be advising Velis regarding global expansion strategy as well as product development and will be involved in strategic customer projects. He will be working mainly from his base in the UK.

Velis Real Estate Tech, which Alan has known since 2014, is rapidly becoming a leading player in the PropTech sector, with its Singu solutions installed at more than 10,000 properties in over 20 countries.

Colquhoun says: “I am very excited to join Velis Real Estate Tech at this pivotal moment when Singu software solutions have so much to offer in the increasingly complicated and demanding areas of property and facility management.”

“We are thrilled to start our cooperation with Alan, and I believe it will be an interesting journey for both sides, in times when real estate and technology become an integral and inseparable whole in efficient management of building ecosystems. His wide experience and knowledge of international real estate markets with a commercial property advisory background will be extremely valuable in effectively realizing Velis Real Estate Tech’s mission to create the best possible product that will support anyone working in the real estate industry,” says Adam Penkala, Board Member, Head of Marketing and Global Expansion Department at Velis Real Estate Tech.
