Columbia Threadneedle announces real estate leadership transition

Columbia Threadneedle Investments has announced the planned transition of its UK Real Estate (RE) leadership team, with the retirement of team head John Willcock and Director and Fund Manager Chris Morrogh over the next six months.

The transition will see Joseph Vullo promoted to Head of UK Real Estate and James Rigg to Chief Investment Officer, UK Real Estate, both reporting to Nick Ring, CEO EMEA.

Ring says: “I am pleased to announce this transition which is the result of our long-term succession planning and reflects the depth of leadership talent within our UK Real Estate business. Both Joe and James have been with the firm for over 20 years and have been part of our Real Estate senior management team for several years. I am delighted to support their career progression with these promotions.

“John and Chris retire after long and successful careers and an outstanding record of service to our clients. We thank them for their substantial contributions to our UK Real Estate business and wish them the very best for their next phase.

“We firmly believe in the importance of real estate as part of a diversified investment portfolio, due to its ability to provide diversification benefits and a strong income component. I look forward to working with Joe, James and the whole team as they continue to deliver for our clients. Our UK Real Estate team has a well-established investment philosophy and approach that has produced a strong and consistent track record over the long-term and this won’t change,” he says.

In addition to the above changes, Columbia Threadneedle has reviewed its approach to its Retail and Institutional RE franchises, to further embed a strong focus and specialisation on the needs of clients in these two channels.

As a result, Gerry Frewin, manager of the Threadneedle UK Property Authorised Investment Fund will become Head of Retail, UK Real Estate
James Coke and Robin Jones will become Co-Heads of Institutional, UK Real Estate. James Coke will replace Chris Morrogh as manager of the Threadneedle Property Unit Trust on 1 January 2021, allowing for a smooth transition of portfolio management responsibilities. Robin Jones will assume lead management responsibilities for the Threadneedle Pensions Property Fund.

Fund managers Nathan Hargreaves and Sandy Wilson have resigned from Columbia Threadneedle to pursue different career and lifestyle plans. We thank them for their contribution to the firm and their service to our clients.
