FORE agrees 3,390 sq m Edeka lease at Vesalia Mall in Germany

FORE Partnership has signed a lease with leading German supermarket operator, Edeka, for 3,390 sq m in the prime frontage anchor unit at Vesalia Mall, Wesel, Germany. The supermarket opens in September 2020.

Edeka’s environmental focus aligns with FORE’s sustainability commitments. Edeka works in partnership with WWF to promote environmental protection and sustainable action. The supermarket uses new technology to reduce the need for packaging. For example, their organic fruit and vegetables come without labels, instead using ‘smart branding’ laser engraving. When packaging is necessary, it is made from reusable and ecologically beneficial materials.

This letting repositions the asset with a food-led offer, which complements the existing leisure and amenity tenants on site, including low-cost supermarket chain Aldi, gym operator Easy Fitness, fashion retailer KiK, and jeweller Hayat.
Basil Demeroutis, Managing Partner, FORE Partnership, says: “Edeka’s goal to reduce their ecological footprint was very impressive to us and sat well with our own climate commitments. The addition of Edeka at Vesalia Mall enhances a retail hub in Wesel that offers convenience and quality.”
FORE recently announced its commitment to a wide-ranging and ambitious target to ensure its business and buildings are net zero carbon by 2025, forming part of the real estate investment firm’s strategy to drive wider positive social and environmental outcomes through a systemic approach to the built environment and its investments.
Earlier this year, FORE secured planning permission for Tower Bridge Court, a 110,000 sq ft office in Southwark that will be one of the UK’s most sustainable workspaces. CBRE’s co-working arm Hana recently signed to open its first location outside London at FORE’s highly sustainable Manchester office development, Windmill Green.
