BH Properties appoints Chief Financial Officer
Real estate investment firm BH Properties has appointed Erik Svensson as Senior Managing Director and Chief Financial Officer (CFO).
Svensson’s career in real estate spans 30 years, the last 10 with S&P 500 company Public Storage. As Vice President, Acquisitions and Commercial Real Estate, he was responsible for the oversight of the firm’s US commercial real estate portfolio. Previously he was Senior Vice President and CFO of Watt Companies, Inc, a diversified real estate investment firm with more than $1 billion in assets under management. Svensson earned a BS in Finance from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo and an MBA from St Mary’s College.
“Erik’s diverse background in finance, operations and investment management working with both public and privately held real estate firms will be invaluable to further the growth of BH Properties in these extraordinary times and beyond,” says company president James Brooks. “This strategic hire allows for the promotion of Luz Marquez to the role of Senior Managing Director, Family Office completing our vision for a robust management team.”
Svensson, who also will be part of the firm’s Investment Committee, will immediately turn his attention to implementing a multi-tiered strategy that includes strengthening the accounting group and improving upon the existing set of systems to better position the company for further growth and expansion.”

Svensson is BH Properties third major hire in the past 12 months as the firm founded in 1993 by veteran businessman and real estate investor Steve Gozini, continues to build a dynamic leadership team. Brooks joined the company last year after seven years as president of Topa Management Company. His career includes senior leadership positions with Morgan Stanley Real Estate Fund; The Koll Company and Tishman Speyer Properties. Earlier this year, Rowan Sbaiti, a Vice President with global investment management firm Fortress Investment Group joined the firm as Senior Managing Director of Acquisitions.
Other members of the management team include: Senior Managing Directors Andrew Van Tuyle (Investments), Bill Hardy (Leasing), John Crump (Finance), Brian Park (Commercial Operations), Luz Marquez (Accounting and Administration) and Ron Platisha (Multifamily Operations) whose combined commercial real estate experience totals approximately 150 years.
