Impax appoints ex-UK Government climate change policy expert

Impax Asset Management (Impax), the specialist asset manager investing in the transition to a more sustainable global economy, has appointed Chris Dodwell to the newly created role of Head of Policy & Advocacy.

Dodwell is a climate change and environmental policy expert with over 25 years’ public and private sector experience. Throughout his career he has specialised in the financing and delivery of climate action in the UK and overseas.
Dodwell joins Impax from Ricardo where he was Director of Climate Change, Clean Growth and Strategic Partnerships, and responsible for overseeing key projects in these areas as well as building relationships with clients in the public and financial services sectors. Dodwell and his team advised more than 15 countries on their national climate targets and action plans under the Paris Agreement and launched the Climate Finance Accelerator, a UK Government-funded initiative aimed at mobilising private sector finance for climate action. Prior to joining Ricardo, Dodwell worked for 10 years at the heart of the UK Government's work on climate change. He held senior roles including leading the UK’s implementation of the EU Emissions Trading System and headed the UK Delegation to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
Dodwell will report directly to Ian Simm, Founder and CEO of Impax Asset Management. The appointment is effective as of 2nd December.
Simm says: “We are thrilled to hire someone with Chris’s impressive experience specialising in policy work related to investing in the sustainable economy. He will play a leading role in broadening Impax’s engagement in the development of policy issues and will contribute insights on policy matters to Impax’s investment teams.”
Dodwell adds: “Impax has pioneered investment in the sustainable economy and I am really excited about the opportunity to shape the company’s engagement with policy makers across the world. The future direction of policy - both in decarbonising individual sectors and in the emerging field of green finance - will play a vital role in accelerating the transition to a more sustainable economy. It is important that experienced investors like Impax have a voice on shaping future policy so they can positively contribute to a low carbon future.”
