CA Ventures makes two key appointments for European operations
CA Ventures, a USD10.2 billion, vertically integrated real estate investment company, has strengthened its team in Europe with the appointments of Matt Taylor as CFO and Philip Sanford as Head of HR, Europe.
Taylor is appointed with over 20 years’ financial experience within the real estate industry. He joins CA Ventures in Europe from ThreeSixty Developments, the student housing developer and operator owned by funds managed by Oaktree Capital Management, where he oversaw the successful deployment of over GBP400m of equity in the UK and Europe, helping to secure 17,000 beds.
Also joining CA Ventures in Europe is Philip Sanford as Head of HR. Sanford spent the past 11 years at global marketing services group, Engine, where he was most recently Head of HR, covering the UK and Germany. At Engine, he had a relentless focus on employee experience, helping the group achieve accreditation as a Sunday Times’ Top 100 employer.
The appointments, both based in London, follow the launch of CA Ventures in Europe. Announced in September, the firm has begun constructing three sites in Sheffield, Edinburgh and Glasgow, committing GBP500 million per annum in student accommodation across the UK and Ireland, as well as a further pipeline of GBP200 million a year in Spain and GBP150 million a year in both Portugal and Italy.
Carlo Matta, Head of Europe, CA Ventures, says: “The appointments of Matt Taylor and Philip Sanford reflect our commitment to building an outstanding team in Europe following our launch to the region in September. Both have a wealth of experience and share in our vision to capitalise on the real opportunity in the market, where there is strong appetite for high-quality, institutional-grade student housing.
“Matt’s experience in helping to deliver large portfolios across Europe is in alignment with our own objectives and is therefore incredibly valuable to us. So too is Philip’s skillset, which will help us to drive the process of attracting and retaining the best talent in the industry to ensure we reach our ambitious targets in Europe.”
Matt Taylor, CFO, Europe, CA Ventures, says: “CA Ventures is an ambitious company with a stellar track record and clear vision for the European market. The firm has pioneered the development of purpose-built student living communities in the US and I’m pleased to now be a part of the team as we prepare to replicate this success in Europe.”
Philip Sanford, Head of HR, Europe, CA Ventures, adds: “I’m looking forward to working alongside Carlo Matta, and the leadership team at CA Ventures in this exciting time for the firm. CA Ventures has fantastic talent, and our people strategy will seek to build on this as we continue to establish ourselves in Europe and bring new schemes to the market.”
