Hammerson, on behalf of the Dundrum Retail Limited Partnership, has submitted plans for a strategic housing development at Dundrum Town Centre. This is Hammerson’s first application in Ireland as part of its burgeoning City Quarters concept.
City Quarters looks to create vibrant mixed-use neighbourhoods surrounding its existing flagship destinations: the concept will see Hammerson transform many of its city venues beyond pure retail into successful neighbourhoods providing homes, workspace and accessible public areas.
The proposed residential development will consist of 107 apartments for long-term rent, in addition to a ground floor café, located on a site known as ‘Building 5’ close to the Sandyford Road entrance of the Dundrum Town Centre Red Car Park.
Designed as a best-in-class development, Building 5 will deliver one studio, 50 one-bedroom and 56 two-bedroom apartments. The scheme will provide a generous level of dedicated on-site resident amenities including a co-working space at ground floor level, a gym, cinema room, and, lounge and terrace at the upper levels.
Exterior courtyards and terraces will incorporate a combination of quality hard landscaping, such as seating, paving and lighting along with native plants to enhance local biodiversity.
In line with local and national policy, the development will also provide a range of sustainable transportation measures including high quality cycle facilities, car club spaces and electric car charging facilities.
This latest announcement follows the recent submission of mixed-use masterplan applications for both Martineau Galleries in Birmingham and the Goodsyard in Shoreditch and the launch of plans for a 14-storey, 205 bed hotel adjacent to Victoria Gate in Leeds.
Simon Betty, Hammerson Director of Retail Ireland, says: “We have submitted plans for 107 apartments creating a vibrant and sustainable residential space adjacent to our flagship destination in Dublin. Just a short walk from Dundrum’s retail, leisure and community amenities, Building 5 will have easy access to a range of public transport services and large employment hubs.”
It is intended that construction work for the proposed development will begin in 2020.
Hammerson is leading the Building 5 project on behalf of the Dundrum Retail Limited Partnership, a 50:50 Allianz and Hammerson joint venture that owns and operates Dundrum Town Centre.
