Barings completes USD12.7bn of global real estate transactions in 2018

Barings has completed USD12.7 billion of global transactions in 2018, including over USD2.3 billion in Europe debt and equity.

The USD12.7 billion of global transactions comprised equity acquisitions and financings of USD3.4 billion and USD3 billion of equity disposals, USD6.6 billion in real estate debt investments and USD1.4 billion of global REIT securities under management.

Of the USD2.3 billion European transactions, USD1.8 billion were equity transactions. Barings acquired assets for USD950 million and sold assets for USD810 million. Transactions occurred across all key western European markets. In addition, we invested in the UK private rental sector market for the first time. Barings was a net buyer in Europe in 2018 with France, Spain and the Netherlands the most active markets for acquisitions, by both volume and number of transactions.

Barings continues to respond to the strong global investor appetite for pan-European real estate, maintaining its clear focus on pan-European core, value-add and opportunistic strategies in high conviction markets.

The team also originated over USD556 million of core and structured debt investments across the UK. This included the financing for a number of iconic buildings and developments, such as Milton Park in Oxfordshire and the mixed use Pinnacle in central Leeds.
