Barings makes debt placement and syndication appointment in Europe

Barings Real Estate has appointed Daniel Köhler as Director of Debt Capital Markets, Structured Real Estate Investments in Europe.

Köhler will have responsibility for executing financing solutions for Barings’ European portfolio of equity investment properties and levered-loan strategies. Köhler will operate across Europe and will be based in Munich, while reporting to US-based Nasir Alamgir, Head of Debt Capital Markets for Barings Real Estate.

Köhler brings more than 12 years of experience in commercial real estate finance and debt management across Europe.  He joins from Invesco Real Estate where, since 2011, he was an Associate Director in structured debt finance, originating debt in excess of EUR2.0 billion. Prior to this he held positions at Landesbank Berlin AG and Bayerische Landesbank in locations including London, Munich and Shanghai.

The appointment builds on the ongoing success of Barings’ European lending platform which was first established in 2013 and already comprises a loan book in excess of GBP1 billion, with a team of five now arranging senior, whole-loan, mezzanine and development finance for a high quality roster of clients.

Dean Dulchinos, Head of Structured Real Estate Investments at Barings Real Estate, says: “Daniel brings a wealth of experience in real estate financing across multiple markets, and he will play an important role on our team as we continue to build on the ongoing success of the European debt platform and the expansion of our global offering.”

Köhler says: “Barings’ European debt platform has undergone a period of significant growth and I look forward to working with the teams in both Europe and the US to support both borrower and investor strategies.”
