Scarborough submits planning application for Aldi at Marina Quay, Rhyl

Scarborough International Properties Limited (SIPL) has submitted an application for detailed planning consent for an 18,567 sq ft Aldi store at its GBP25 million Marina Quay development on the seafront in Rhyl, North Wales.

SIPL first confirmed in November last year that the leading global discount supermarket had plans to open a store at Marina Quay and held a public consultation day in December to showcase the plans.

If approved, the development would involve Aldi relocating from its current site within the town centre to the 132,000 sq ft retail and leisure development to expand their store. Existing Aldi jobs will be retained and additional jobs will be created with the supermarket. Pending planning consent from Denbighshire County Council, construction will commence later on this year.

The deal follows the news that pre-lets have been secured with The Range, Poundworld, Farmfoods and Greggs. The Range has confirmed its opening date on Good Friday, 30 March 2018. Further deals with a number of food and beverage operators are in the pipeline.

Jack Abou-Jaoude, Development Manager of Scarborough International Properties, says: “We are extremely excited about the prospect of opening a new Aldi store at Marina Quay. We have worked hard to deliver an accessible and larger store for local residents. The planning consent will enable us to create local employment opportunities in the local area and provide consumers with even more choice. We look forward to progressing the scheme."
