Ian Coull is to join the board of Grainger as a non-executive director on 23 September 2014 and will be proposed as chairman at the AGM in February 2015.
Robin Broadhurst will retire as a director and as chairman on that day.
Coull (pictured) has been chairman of Galliford Try since 2011. He was chief executive of SEGRO from 2003 to 2011 and prior to this, a main board director of J Sainsbury. He has also been a non-executive director of Pendragon, a role he held from December 2010 to January 2013.
He is currently a non-executive director of London Scottish International and of The Duchy of Lancaster and is also a member of the government’s property advisory panel.
Broadhurst says: "Ian has enjoyed a distinguished career in the property sector embracing considerable real estate experience both within the UK and internationally. He is well known and liked within the industry and the board supports me in believing that his leadership style will be a great asset to Grainger and help take forward the company's strategy in the next stage of its growth."
