Insight appoints head of farmland management
Insight Investment has appointed David Beca as head of farmland management.
Based in London, he will report to Martin Davies, head of farmland investments.
Since February 2011, Beca has been chief executive/managing director of NZ Farming Systems Uruguay. In this role, he implemented pasture-based dairy production systems in Uruguay and oversaw the company’s dairy investments in Russia.
Beca has a 30-year career spanning a broad spectrum of international agribusinesses, including Intelact Nutrition (South Africa and Australia), Red Sky Agricultural (Australia, South Africa and New Zealand) and Northland Cooperative Dairy Company (New Zealand), as well as extensive hands-on experience as the owner of beef, sheep and dairy farms in Australia and New Zealand.
Insight’s eight-strong farmland team is led by Reza Vishkai, head of specialist investments, who joined the company in 2005. The team includes farming experts from around the world.
“We believe farmland is becoming an increasingly attractive asset class. The scale of investment into farmland is expected to double or even triple by the end of 2015 to more than USD50bn. Insight is establishing a strong track record in this highly specialised area and continues to build an unrivalled depth of farmland investing expertise,” says Vishkai. “We are delighted to have David Beca join this team at this exciting juncture for Insight and the asset class.”
Beca says: “The development of an institutional market for farmland is the most significant development in the agricultural industry for a generation. The investment case for farmland is compelling. With its first fund, Insight has built a great reputation as an innovator and creator of value in farmland investments. I am excited by the opportunity to help build this growing franchise and expand Insight’s range of innovative products, solutions and advisory services.”
