Cantor Fitzgerald adds Mark Mothner to team

Cantor Fitzgerald has hired Mark Mothner as senior managing director and co-head of government agency and supra/sovereign trading, reporting to Cantor's chief executive Shawn Matthews.

Together with William Lawhorn, Mothner will be responsible for the trading and underwriting of the debt of government-sponsored enterprises such as Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, supra-national corporations, sovereign debt, and the debt of FDIC bonds backed by the US Treasury's Temporary Liquidity Guarantee Program.

Mothner has more than 14 years of trading experience and has run trading desks at Chase Securities, Bank of America, and Merrill Lynch. Most recently, he was the head of structured notes trading for the Americas at Merrill Lynch.

Mothner says: 'I'm proud to be joining such a successful group of market professionals and am looking forward to bolstering Cantor's already strong debt franchise. I look forward to leveraging Cantor's many strengths to help our clients achieve their goals in this difficult trading environment.'

'We are thrilled to have someone of Mark's calibre join our team at Cantor. As we continue to build our fixed-income franchise, Mark's trading experience and deep relationships will be integral to our overall success in the market,' says Matthews.

Cantor's debt capital markets group has added nearly 100 sales and trading professionals in 2008 and has added over 125 new strategic hires since December.
